I, like all Jews, have always been afraid of you. The knowledge that you did such an awful thing to our ancestors haunts our nightmares. We go to museums about the atrocities you committed just to have an outlet for that primal, existential fear.
I think it’s about time I let go of that fear.
I know, that what happened, happened. But it happened a long time ago. Just about 90 years ago. Nearly a century.
And by now, pretty much everyone involved is dead.
So Nazis, what you did really sucked, but you’re all dead. So I’m not too worried you’re gonna do it again.
And frankly, I don’t think it would work if anyone tried. I feel like anyone persecuting the Jews would do so realizing they were immediately starting World War III. And I don’t think anyone wants to complete that trilogy (especially against Israel).
To be honest, I’m not really mad at any of you as people either. I’ve seen just how easy it easy it is for regular people to get swept up in crazy shit. My god, one of the attendees at January 6th was a grandmother. So I could see how, you were all feeling pretty shitty after the Treaty of Versailles, and when some guy came up and said it was all our fault, you might have been tempted by the idea that someone else was to blame for all of your problems.
But I also know, that if any of you were alive today, you’d be much better than that. Because we’ve all gotten smarter and better in the last 90 years. Back in the 1930s, we were doing all sorts of bad shit in the US too. But we’ve gotten much better since then. And I think it’s fair to assume the German people have too.
Anyways, Adolf, I assume you’re probably not in heaven, but I hope you at least get to paint some nice landscapes of the fire and brimstone and all that.
Love,
Dov
If God exists and created good and evil, then antisemitism is an evil created by God to punish Jews for disobedience.
